If I could play Christmas music all year long (and not feel guilty-weird about it), I would. It brings me peace. It brings me happiness. But most of all, it centers me.
And I'm not talking about Santa Baby or Jingle Bell Rock. I'm talking O Little Town of Bethlehem, Once In Royal David's City, or What Child Is This?
A friend of mine at work jokes around with me about tapping into my inner lesbian. When I started this blog post, I didn't intend to combine the topics of lesbianism and Christmas music, but here I am. :) WTF?
Anyway, I digress.
Kim, my friend at work, and I often joke around about our love of Lilith Fair bands -- particularly the Indigo Girls (LOVE 'EM!). So it's probably not surprising that one of my favorite Christmas collections is heavy on the female charm and beauty -- Celtic Woman.
Chloë Agnew and the girls enchant me. They have that same powerful, soulful elegance that one often finds from the likes of Sarah McLachlan, Colbie Caillat, or yes, the Indigo Girls.
And they're lovely.
Of course I can listen to Celtic Woman throughout the year -- they do a a righteous Danny Boy and You Raise Me Up. But there's something magical about hearing Chloë Agnew piping Panis Angelicus, O Holy Night, or Ave Maria that stirs the soul.
It's Christmas in all its glory.
